Trend Alert: Sweater Weather

Every teenage girl knows that a cozy, knit sweater is a wardrobe staple for the fall/winter season. But we all know it can get a little boring...oversized sweater with leggings, sweater with skinny jeans, sweater with boots...These looks are practically a uniform for some girls! While this is fine and totally chic, the monotony is starting to put me to sleep. Let's switch it up a bit and break these uninspired habits!

Juxtaposition is the key to a fabulous outfit. It might not be the first thing you think of when you see a big wooly sweater, but I say try out those oversized pullovers with a skirt or a great pair of boyfriend jeans.

The contrast between the shapeless top and the feminine bottom will cause people to do a double take. And skinny jeans and leggings are perfect basics to pair with sweaters, but they won't give you that extra umph and edge that boyfriend jeans will.

Some things to keep in mind: DON'T wear a loose sweater with too flowy of a skirt--you'll get lost under all that fabric. Maintain balance by choosing either top OR bottom to go oversized on. DO coordinate color palettes in both the sweater in the skirt, but you don't have to be matchy-matchy. Feel free to mix prints of similar color families!

Reconnecting with the Earth, a free spirit relaxes in the shade. Trend is full length skirts and crop-tops.
Revolutionary movements of the seventies led young individuals down pathways to a new way of life. Trend is earth tones, military-style jeans and boots, and paisley patterns in scarf.

Being one with nature, trend is earth tones in makeup and clothing, and paisley patterns.

On the fence of freedom: The seventies were filled with war and anti-war sentiment, which was evident in militaristic trends. Trend is combat boots & jacket, mixed with paisley earth tones.
